Thompson of West Pine Bluff Club Selected as DG 2019-2020

District leadership announcement to all District 6170 members:

I am pleased to announce that Robert Thompson of the Rotary Club of West Pine Bluff has been selected by the District 6170 Nominating Committee to serve as the District Governor for the Rotary year July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

Robert has been a Rotarian for 19 years, his first year in the Rotary Club of Russellville Downtown and 18 years in the Rotary Club of West Pine Bluff. One example of his commitment to Rotary is 18 years of perfect attendance. Robert has served twice as club president as well as in other club capacities. He has served in the district for multiple terms as both an Assistant Governor and chair of the Membership Committee. Robert is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

After graduating from Pittsburgh State University, Robert served seven years as a Field Artillery officer in the US Army. Upon separation, he moved to Arkansas, accepted his call to ministry and became a bi-vocational minister in the Baptist faith.

As well as being a pastor, Robert also works in the Title III Program Administration office at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and serves as an adjunct professor in the Humanities division of the English department. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Faculty/Staff Senate.

Robert served as the president of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Ministerial Alliance and the Baptist Pastors and Ministers Association. He also is a past President of the Neighbor to Neighbor Board, member of the JRMC Clinical Pastoral Education board, and member of the American Red Cross board. He serves as a member of the United Way Allocations committee, and he also serves on the board of Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare.

Robert and his wife Carolyn have nine children, of which five are adopted, and they have nine grandchildren. They both like fishing when they can find the time, and Robert loves doing handyman work to relax. He loves reading and sharing what he learns with others. Teaching has long been his passion, and he loves to serve whenever the opportunity arises.

The selection of Robert by the Nominating Committee will be presented for the approval of the District’s clubs during the district business meeting at District Conference in Hot Springs on April 29.

Please join me in congratulating Robert on his selection.

Sincerely,

Allen Morgan
District Governor 2016-17
